Now the support of AI in treatment, government brought SAHI and BODH, big preparations to make cheap and safe health system

SAHI Initiative And BODH Platform: A major step has been taken towards making treatment affordable, transparent and reliable in the country. Jagat Prakash Nadda launched two important digital health initiatives SAHI (Strategy for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare for India) and BODH (Benchmarking Open Data Platform for Health AI) from the platform of India AI Impact Summit 2026. These initiatives aim to ensure that AI is used in hospitals and drug research in a safe, ethical and people-centric manner.

SAHI: Ethical and transparent use of AI in treatment

The Health Minister said that SAHI is not just a technology plan, but a governance framework and national roadmap. This will ensure that AI is used in an ethical, transparent, accountable, and people-centric manner.

The Minister reminded that the digital foundation was laid through the Digital India program in 2015. After this, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (2020) strengthened the digital health framework. Now SAHI will take forward the same vision and implement AI responsibly.

Medicines and research will gain momentum, expenses will reduce

Shri Nadda said that AI will speed up drug discovery, make clinical trials more accurate and reduce the cost of research. With this, common people will be able to get affordable treatment. He stressed that AI does not work in isolation, but depends on strong digital infrastructure and quality data.

BODH: Use of AI tools only after strict testing

The BODH platform, developed by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in collaboration with the National Health Authority, will test AI models on real, anonymized health data. It will evaluate performance, reliability, bias, and generalizability to ensure solutions are safe and effective before large-scale implementation.

Joint effort of government-academia-industry

Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava said SAHI gives a common framework for private partners to partner with the central and state governments. The representative of WHO South-East Asia Regional Office described India’s initiative as a global standard and said that this strategy has been designed to increase access to services and strengthen trust.

With SAHI and BODH, India has made it clear that AI-based health services will rest on innovation as well as accountability and public trust. Its direct benefit will be to middle and lower-middle class families, who need better and cheaper treatment.
