Modi met President of Spain and PM of Finland, called INDIA-EU FTA ‘golden era’
During the India AI Impact Expo-2026 organized at Bharat Mandapam in the capital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi Had separate bilateral meetings (India AI Impact Expo) with President of Spain Pedro Sanchez and Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo. PM Modi described the recently signed India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as the beginning of a “golden era” in India-Europe relations.
Emphasis on defence, technology and culture with Spain
Further strengthening of India-Spain partnership was discussed in the meeting with President Pedro Sanchez. It was agreed to increase cooperation in areas like defence, security and technology (India AI Impact Expo).
Prime Minister Modi said that the year 2026 is being celebrated as the India-Spain Year of Culture, Tourism and AI, which will further deepen people-to-people contacts between the two countries. He also said that the India-EU FTA will have a positive impact on economic relations with Spain and open up new opportunities for the people of both the countries.
It is noteworthy that India and the European Union had agreed to a comprehensive free trade agreement on January 27, which many analysts are calling the “mother of all deals”. This agreement connects a market of approximately 2 billion people.
Discuss 6G and innovation with Finland
Special discussions took place on technology, innovation and clean energy in the meeting with Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo. PM Modi expressed gratitude for their support for the India-EU FTA and said both countries aim to double bilateral trade. In the meeting, it was also agreed to increase cooperation in 6G technology, biofuel, circular economy and emerging technologies.
Bharat Mandapam becomes global AI platform
India AI Impact Expo-2026 features over 600 startups and pavilions from 13 countries. More than 20 heads of state, 60 ministers and more than 500 global AI leaders are participating in the event.
This platform is giving a new direction to international collaboration in the AI ecosystem (India AI Impact Expo) by bringing together technology companies, research institutes, startups and governments.
This new chapter of India-Europe relations is being considered important from economic, technological and strategic point of view, in which AI and digital innovation are seen becoming the center of future partnership.
