Chief Election Commissioner made a strong appeal to the voters

Assam elections: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar shared important information with voters and media regarding the soon to be held assembly elections in Assam. He said that “a pure and accurate voter list is the cornerstone of our democracy”. The main objective of the recently concluded Special Voter List Revision (SSR) was to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the list and no ineligible person is included in it. It was also informed in the review meeting of the Election Commission that out of 126 assembly seats in Assam, 98 are reserved for general, 19 for Scheduled Tribe (ST) and 9 for Scheduled Caste (SC). After the special revision drive, about 2.49 crore voters have been included in the list. To make elections accessible and transparent, 31,486 polling stations will be set up in the state. These include 27,711 centers in rural and 3,775 urban areas. There will be webcasting facility at each booth and the number of voters at any polling station will not exceed 1200, so that the voting experience remains smooth.
