Ramadan is the month of prayers and blessings, the first fast starts from today.
In the religion of Islam, the month of Ramadan is considered very holy and full of blessings. It is called the month of worship, restraint and self-purification. Last Wednesday evening, the beginning of Ramadan was announced with the sighting of the moon in many parts of the country. People in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and other states including Delhi confirmed the sighting of the moon. After this, the first fast of Ramadan was observed in India today on Thursday.
Religious leaders confirmed the sighting of the moon
The Hilal committees of Delhi’s historic Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri Masjid officially confirmed the sighting of the moon. Religious leaders said that the holy month of Ramadan has started with the sighting of the moon and now people of the Muslim community will fast and pray for the entire month. Organizations that oversee religious affairs in Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha have also confirmed the sighting of the moon in many areas.
Ramadan in India often starts a day later than the Middle East countries. The reason for this is the geographical difference in visibility of the moon. This year, the moon was seen a day earlier in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and United Arab Emirates, due to which Ramadan started there from Wednesday itself, whereas in India, the first Roza will be observed from Thursday.
Sehri before sunrise
People fasting during Ramadan do Sehri in the morning before sunrise, which is a preparation for fasting throughout the day. After Sehri, Fajr namaz is offered and then worship is done by abstaining from food and drink for the whole day. After sunset, the fast is broken at the time of Iftar. This time is considered very important spiritually, when people thank Allah and pray.
On the first day of fasting, the time of Sehri was till around 5:30 in the morning and the time of Iftar was around 6:15 in the evening. As Ramadan progresses, the duration of fasting may also increase due to the increase in day length, which may be more than 13 hours. Slight variation in timings is possible in different cities.
The month of Ramadan is not limited only to fasting, but it is also a symbol of self-control, charity, sympathy and spiritual progress. During this time, people help the needy, pray as much as possible and try to improve their lives.
