Rajya Sabha election 2026 schedule released, voting on 37 seats in 10 states on March 16

Political activity has intensified regarding the Rajya Sabha elections 2026. The Election Commission of India has declared the election schedule for 37 seats in 10 states (Rajya Sabha Election). Voting will be held in various states including Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Bihar and Maharashtra on March 16, 2026, while the counting of votes will also be done in the evening on the same day.

This election is being held to replace those members whose tenure is ending in April 2026. Political parties have intensified their brainstorming on the names of potential candidates and efforts to settle the equations have begun in many states.

How much movement in which states?

In these elections, voting is to be held on two seats of Chhattisgarh (Rajya Sabha Election). The members who retired from here include poet Tejpal Singh Tulsi and Phulo Devi Netam.

The tenure of Saket Gokhale, Ritabrata Banerjee, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, Mausam Noor and Subrata Bakshi from West Bengal is completing.

Amarendra Dhari Singh, Prem Chand Gupta, Ramnath Thakur, Upendra Kushwaha and Harivansh Narayan Singh are retiring from Bihar.

In Maharashtra, the tenure of Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, Dr. Fauzia Tehseen Ahmed Khan, Priyanka Vikram Chaturvedi, Sharadchandra Govindrao Pawar, Dhairyasheel Mohan Patil, Rajni Ashokrao Patil and Ramdas Bandu Athawale is ending.

Elections will also be held on the seats of Odisha, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Telangana and Haryana, due to which political activities have intensified in these states also.

Rajya Sabha, which is called the upper house of the Parliament, plays an important role in national policies and legislative process (Rajya Sabha Election). In such a situation, the elections for these 37 seats can affect the political equations in many states.
