A match was being played between Paramount and YMCC teams in a local tournament in Shuklaganj area of Unnao district. During this time Manik Gupta and Jagdish Sharma were umpiring. Meanwhile, suddenly a swarm of bees came near the two umpires wearing white clothes and started hovering.
Bees attacked Manik Gupta for 10 minutes
Meanwhile, bees attacked Manik Gupta’s body fiercely for 10 minutes. Every effort was made to save them, meanwhile some players and other people were also injured by the bees. But umpire stung Gupta badly.
After this, he was hurriedly taken to two private hospitals in Shuklaganj, but later the doctors asked to be taken to Kanpur. He was definitely taken to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, but the doctors declared Manik Gupta dead.
Kanpur Cricket Association Chairman Sanjay Kapoor expressed grief over this painful incident. He said on this, “The senior umpire of KCA was dedicated to the game. The KCA family is involved in every grief and stands with the grieving family. All possible help will be given to his family.”
