The Kerala Story 2 trailer and controversy
The Kerala Story 2: As soon as the trailer of this film was released, the atmosphere of discussion in social and political circles has become heated. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called it against the unity and integrity of India. He has expressed strong objection to the film considering it a threat to the secular identity of the state. Vijayan says that this film can harm the image of the state and has appealed to the people not to watch it.
Chief Minister’s statement
The Chief Minister made it clear that Kerala’s social harmony and mutual respect is its biggest strength. He said that attempts to spread division through any creation cannot be accepted. Vijayan alleged that the aim of the film was to create a negative atmosphere against the state.
target on first part also
Referring to the first part, Vijayan said its aim was to ‘spread hatred against the state and undermine its secular tradition’. He said, ‘The first part was full of lies, hatred and anti-Kerala propaganda, which was made with communal motive.’
He also expressed concern about the second part and said that it claimed to show incidents of forced religious conversion, which many people considered to be propaganda.
objection on social media
The Chief Minister, in his statement on Facebook, raised questions as to why ‘poisonous compositions designed to spread division and hatred in the society’ are allowed to be displayed publicly. Giving examples, he said that films like Beef were banned from film festivals on the basis of title alone, while controversial subjects were getting a platform.
Objection to inter-religious relations
The Chief Minister wrote, ‘They are spreading false propaganda by portraying even consensual marriages as an example of communalism and forced conversion.’ He raised serious questions on the way inter-religious relationships were depicted in the film.
Warned by calling him ‘enemy of the state’
Chief Minister Vijayan said, ‘Such forces are hostile towards Kerala, which is a state free from communal riots and where there is a tradition of mutual respect between communities.’ He alleged that the intention behind these efforts was to harm the peace and stability of the state.
He appealed to the citizens, ‘We have to collectively reject attempts to portray Kerala, a land of religious harmony, as a hub of terrorism.’
