Ranchi: The rumor of child theft took a violent form on Thursday morning in Edalhatu area of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. In Bariatu police station area, some local people, on the basis of suspicion, caught two women and a man and beat them brutally. After the incident, an atmosphere of tension and chaos was created in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, all three persons were seen roaming in the locality. During this time, some people suspected them of coming with the intention of stealing a child. Within no time a crowd gathered and started fighting without any confirmation. A woman suffered serious injuries during the fight.
As soon as information about the incident was received, the police of Bariatu police station reached the spot. After much effort, the police pacified the crowd and brought out the three including the injured woman safely. After this, he was taken to the police station and interrogation started.
Police officials say that till now no incident of child theft has been confirmed. Investigation of the matter is ongoing. The police have appealed to the people not to believe in rumors and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the police, so that law and order can be maintained and such incidents are not repeated.
