Supreme Court granted bail to the accused in Pune Porsche accident case, who was in jail for 20 months.

The Supreme Court has granted bail to an accused (Ashpak Basha Makandar) in the famous Pune Porsche accident case of 2024. Justice B.V. The bench of Justice Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan granted bail, giving relief to Ashpak Basha Makander. The Court noted that the accused has been in jail for the last 20 months, while the other co-accused in the case have already been granted bail.

This matter will be heard on 19 May 2024 Pune It is related to a tragic road accident that took place in Kalyani Nagar area, in which a Porsche car driven by a 17-year-old minor, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, crushed two IT professionals (Ashpak Basha Makandar), killing them on the spot. Ashpak Basha Makander is accused of helping in a conspiracy to change the blood samples of the minor driver at the hospital with those of his parents, so as to influence the evidence. In this case, he was accused of tampering with evidence and influencing the investigation.

The Supreme Court said during the hearing that the senior lawyer of the accused had argued that he should be treated at par with other co-accused who have already been granted bail (Ashpak Basha Makandar). On this basis and considering the circumstances of the case, the court passed the order granting bail to the accused.

After this decision of the Supreme Court, now the accused will be able to get release with prescribed conditions. This case has been one of the most talked about road accidents in the country, in which the driving of a luxury car by a minor and the subsequent allegations of alleged evidence tampering had sparked serious debate on the judicial and administrative system.
