As Humayun Kabir’s Babri Masjid is built, will TMC get a shock?
Humayun Kabir is the national president of the newly born Janata Unnayan Party. He is a former MLA of Trinamool Congress. For the last two months, Humayun Kabir has become relevant in the politics of West Bengal. His name has started being used in the central politics of the state. In fact, he is building a new Babri Masjid on the lines of the old Babri Masjid of Ayodhya in Beldanga/Rejinagar area in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. During this time, Kabir made many such communal statements, which caused embarrassment to TMC and BJP surrounded the party fiercely. These are the reasons due to which Trinamool Congress suspended Humayun Kabir from the party on 4 December 2025.
Only after being suspended from TMC, Kabir announced the formation of his new party and announced to contest the assembly elections in the state. Two days later, Humayun Kabir symbolically laid the foundation of Babri Masjid on 6 December 2025. On this day he held a big rally among thousands of Muslim community in Beldanga. This rally was discussed from Banalal to the national media. In fact, as the assembly elections are coming closer, Kabir is repeatedly giving statements against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. At a rally he said, ‘CM Mamata asked me to give hate speeches against Hindus so that Yusuf Pathan can win.’ He is the same Humayun Kabir, who threatened to throw Hindus into the Bhagirathi river in 2024.

These statements of his can help BJP in creating an atmosphere against TMC. In such a situation, as the Babri Masjid being built by Humayun Kabir takes shape… TMC will face a blow in Bengal. Let us understand this in detail…
Construction work of Babri Masjid in Murshidabad
The construction work of Babri Masjid being built in Murshidabad is still in the initial stage. Excavation of the foundation for the mosque, bricks, cement and rods in large quantities can be seen at the construction site. Its video has also gone viral on social media. Humayun Kabir has claimed that the mosque will take two years to be built. Also, it will cost around Rs 50-55 crore to build it. In this, 12,000 people will be able to offer Namaz simultaneously.
TMC has said that the main focus of Humayun Kabir’s activities after this incident is the attempt to create communal tension. TMC has directly accused him of building the mosque with the help of BJP. This allegation by TMC on Humayun Kabir shows that TMC is taking seriously any step which may disturb the communal harmony in the state.
Allegations and counter-allegations between BJP-TMC
Humayun Kabir may be building Babri Masjid alone, but in view of the upcoming assembly elections in the state, the allegations and counter-allegations between BJP and Trinamool Congress have become more sharp. This project is quite controversial. Amidst political allegations and counter-allegations, BJP is calling it vote bank politics and raising questions on funding. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has even alleged that the mosque that Kabir is building is being funded by Bangladesh.
How will TMC suffer in the elections?
In such a situation, TMC may suffer loss in the elections due to the construction of this mosque and Humayun Kabir’s statements. The biggest loss in this could be the split in TMC’s Muslim vote bank. Actually, the strongest base of TMC in West Bengal is Muslim voters. The Muslim population in Murshidabad is more than 60 percent. Kabir also comes from here. He has earlier claimed that his suspension from TMC and construction of the mosque will destroy TMC’s Muslim vote bank. The project could create discontent with the Trinamool Congress by awakening the symbolic importance of the Babri Masjid among a section of the Muslim community, as Mamata Banerjee had suspended Kabir terming the move a communal incitement. With this move, some Muslim voters may move away from TMC and towards Janata Unnayan Party.

Will there be polarization of Hindu voters?
Apart from this, there may be polarization among Hindu voters, which may benefit BJP. Regarding building the mosque, BJP has said that this is appeasement politics of TMC. From Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to many big BJP leaders, TMC and Mamata Banerjee have been attacked regarding Babri being built in Murshidabad. In such a situation, it is clear that the mosque may be built by Humayun Kabir, but BJP will corner TMC on this matter. Organizations associated with BJP have called it a challenge to the Hindu community. This may sway Hindu voters more towards BJP.
Also, the image of Trinamool Congress has always been that of a secular party. Suspending Humayun Kabir over the construction of the mosque can also harm the secular image of TMC. Recently, Humayun Kabir said about the elections, ‘My party will contest on 182 seats in the West Bengal Assembly elections and I will field candidates against Mamata Banerjee and Suvendu Adhikari.’
