Ian Healy slams Australia’s ‘shambolic’ T20 World Cup 2026 exit
The Australian cricket team has faced a historic setback after a shocking group-stage exit from the T20 World Cup 2026, drawing massive criticism from the former wicketkeeper Ian Healy.
Back-to-back losses against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, followed by a rained-out match between Zimbabwe and Ireland, officially closed the doors for the team on Tuesday.
In an interview on SEN Cricket, Healy bashed the management for misleading the public about the team’s readiness for the tournament. “We were duped, just like England cricket, you know, in the lead-up to the Ashes,” he said.
He also criticised the selection of a “power team” for the spinning conditions of the subcontinent, noting there was a “denial that we could be wrong” and a misplaced “total confidence that we’ll be right.”

The veteran was highly critical of the decision to leave Steve Smith out of the XI and the inclusion of inexperienced all-rounders. He noted that “the team it left us with are just full of all finishers, no starters.”
Healy called the current state of the national team “Australian cricket’s low point.”
Due to the absence of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, the bowling attack was “toothless” to defend 181 against Sri Lanka.
As the tournament will keep on going without Aussies, Healy’s demand to “Get real, Australia” serves as a blueprint for the team that has missed the semi-finals in three consecutive T20 World Cup campaigns.
