Prime Minister Modi met the Prince of Abu Dhabi, discussed strategic partnership and bilateral relations
New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan here on Wednesday and discussed the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Prince Al Nahyan is on a two-day official visit to India to attend the AI conference. The two leaders met on the occasion of this conference.
This is the Prince’s second visit to India after September 2024. The Prime Minister’s Office said the two leaders reaffirmed the importance of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership which is based on strong political, cultural, commercial, energy and people-to-people ties. He also recalled the recent successful visits of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other members of the royal families of Abu Dhabi and Dubai to India.
The two leaders spoke about the significant progress made in bilateral relations in various areas including defence, security, trade and investment, education and cultural cooperation. He noted the completion of four years of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, during which there has been significant growth in bilateral trade and investment. The two leaders appreciated the bilateral investments and encouraged UAE sovereign wealth funds to continue investing in the Indian economy.
In this context, he described LIMAD as the latest universal fund with the potential to strengthen partnerships. The leaders also discussed possibilities of cooperation in strategic areas such as space, nuclear energy, technology and innovation. The two leaders welcomed new initiatives to strengthen bilateral cooperation in both traditional and innovative areas.
Under the MoU between the two countries on cooperation in the health and medical sector, joint efforts will be promoted in professional exchange, institutional cooperation, research, digital health, pharmaceutical sector and development of modern technologies in the health sector. Apart from this, the MoU has been finalized between the Center for Development of Advanced Computing, G42 and Mohammed Bin Zayed Artificial Intelligence University for setting up a supercomputer cluster in India.
This process marks the beginning of the implementation of the establishment of a supercomputer cluster jointly announced by Prime Minister Modi and President of the UAE His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed during the visit to India last January. This supercomputer cluster will be part of the AI India Mission and will be available to both public and private sectors for research, application development and commercial use.
Apart from this, these initiatives include setting up the office of Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company in ‘Gift City’ of Gujarat. Sheikh Al Nahyan congratulated the Prime Minister on the success of the AI Impact Summit. The Prime Minister welcomed Switzerland’s initiative to organize the next AI Summit, the latter of which will be held in the UAE.
The visit reaffirmed the tradition of regular high-level leadership dialogue between India and the UAE. It also reinforced the high-level political commitment towards the India-UAE technology partnership, positioning artificial intelligence and advanced technologies as one of the key pillars of the bilateral relationship.
