‘Brajesh Pathak’s move is a slap on the cheek of Yogi’: Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand furious over Shikha controversy

Swami Avimukteshwaranand On Yogi Adityanath: The issue of policemen pulling the shikha (peak) of Vedpathi Batuks on the day of Mauni Amavasya in Prayagraj Magh Mela has now taken the form of a religious war in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. Jyotirmath’s Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati has made a scathing attack on the equations between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak on this entire episode.

Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak had recently honored 101 Batukas at his residence and termed the Prayagraj incident as a sin. Responding to this, Shankaracharya said that this step of Brajesh Pathak is a direct slap on the cheek of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He argued that when a large part of the government (Deputy CM) is accepting that the police action was wrong then it proves that the Chief Minister has chosen the wrong path. Shankaracharya sarcastically said that both the Deputy CMs of UP do not have any real power, they have been kept there only in name. He raised the question, will killing Batuks and offering flowers to them bring peace? Does the Deputy CM even know the names of the Batuks who were insulted?

Questions on dignity and saffron clothes

Countering the decorum statement given by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the House, Swami Avimukteshwaranand said that holding a high post does not give anyone license to commit injustice. He alleged that despite wearing saffron clothes, the symbols and crest of Sanatan Dharma are being insulted in the government and the Chief Minister is speaking lies while standing in the House.

Entry of opposition and ultimatum of March 11

Now Samajwadi Party has also jumped into this controversy. Akhilesh Yadav and Shivpal Yadav have given statements in support of Shankaracharya, on which Swamiji said that if SP can speak then who has stopped BJP leaders from speaking? Shankaracharya has made it clear that he is not going to obey only with symbolic respect. He called it an attack on the flag of Sanatan Dharma and has announced to march to Lucknow on March 11 to demand justice. He said that if both the Deputy CMs really realize their mistake then they should come to Banaras and apologize.
