Bangladesh’s new sports minister regrets not being able to play T20 World Cup! Emphasis laid on improving relations with India
Bangladesh’s New Sports Minister : The stubbornness of the former interim government led by Muhammad Yunus in Bangladesh left their team out of the T20 World Cup 2026. Despite ICC’s warning, Bangladesh Cricket Board kept demanding to shift their matches to Sri Lanka and they had to pull out. Sports Minister of the new government led by Tariq Rehman, Aminul Haq has expressed regret over this. Aminul Haq said the issue of Bangladesh not participating in the T20 World Cup should be “slowly resolved” through talks.

In fact, after taking oath as the new Sports Minister of Bangladesh, Aminul Haq has taken the initiative to remove the sourness in cricket relations with India. Referring to his meeting with India’s Deputy High Commissioner at Parliament House, he said, “I discussed the T20 World Cup with him. The discussion was cordial.” Aminul Haq said, “I told him that we want to resolve this issue quickly through discussion because we want to maintain friendly relations with all our neighboring countries. From sports to all other fields, we want to have honest and cordial relations with India.
On being out of the T20 World Cup and Scotland getting a chance, the new Sports Minister of Bangladesh also said, “Due to diplomatic complications we could not play in the World Cup. If these issues had been resolved through talks earlier, our team could have participated.” Let us tell you that BCCI had decided to exclude Bangladeshi cricketer Mustafizur Rahman from IPL. After which Bangladesh decided not to play in India and demanded to shift its T20 World Cup matches to Sri Lanka. Security reasons were cited behind this. However, the ICC refused to accept this demand.
