Growing network of fake universities in the country, 32 institutions active in 12 states; UGC issued warning
The network of fake institutions running in the name of education is expanding rapidly in the country. The situation is such that where two years ago such universities were limited to only eight states, now their reach has increased to 12 states. During the same period, the number of fake universities has also increased from 20 to 32.
The new affected states include Haryana, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh. In view of this increasing threat, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has advised students and parents to be alert and warned not to take admission in such institutions.
Recently, UGC gave these instructions while issuing an alert in the case of a fake institute running under the name “Global Human Peace University” in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Before admission, please check the list on UGC website.
UGC has said that before taking admission in any university, confirm its affiliation from the list available on the official website of UGC. In the last few years, UGC has been continuously releasing the list of fake universities, but despite this, these institutions are misleading the students under different names. Every year thousands of students are getting trapped in the trap of these fake universities which have spread to rural areas.
Maximum 12 fake universities in Delhi
Of the 32 fake universities operating in 12 states of the country, maximum 12 have been found in Delhi. Some of these institutes are operating near the UGC headquarters.
The situation according to the states is as follows:
Delhi – 12
Uttar Pradesh – 4
Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka – 2 each
Haryana, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh – 1-1
Names of foreign universities are also being misused
Now many fake institutions are trying to mislead students by adopting names like foreign universities. This has made it even more difficult for students to differentiate between genuine and fake institutions. UGC has clarified that only a degree from a recognized university has legal value.
