Women who become brides of farmers will get ₹2 lakh, Karnataka MLA’s unique demand from CM – ..

News India Live, Digital Desk: JDS MLA from Mandya district of Karnataka has placed a special demand before the government in view of the problem of marriage of farmers in the state. He believes that youth in rural areas are facing great difficulty in finding a bride because most of the women are giving preference to employed boys.

1. What is the demand of the MLA?

The MLA has appealed to the Chief Minister that:

Financial Incentives: Girls who are ready to marry farmers should be given financial assistance by the government. 2 lakhs. An incentive amount of Rs.

Sense of Respect: This will change the attitude towards farmers in the society and farming will be seen as a respectable profession.

2. Why was this needed?

The MLA has enumerated several social and economic reasons behind this demand:

Marriage crisis: Thousands of farmer youth in rural areas are unmarried because they are not able to find a life partner. Girls and their families are giving more importance to boys doing small jobs in the city rather than boys doing farming.

Prevent migration: If marriages of farmers happen easily, the youth will not leave farming and run towards cities, which will strengthen the rural economy.

3. Such demand has been raised before also

This is not the first time such an issue has arisen in Karnataka.

Earlier, former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy had also expressed similar concerns.

Thousands of youth in Mandya had trekked to the ‘Malai Mahadeshwar Hills’ so that they could find a good bride.

Government response:

At present, there is no official approval on this from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah or the government, but this proposal has sparked a new debate on social media. Some people are saying it is in the interest of farmers, while some are considering it a part of ‘patriarchal thinking’.
