‘AI can do everything, but cannot improve Delhi’s traffic: Rishi Sunak’
New Delhi. Former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy shared the stage together at the British High Commission in New Delhi on Thursday. During this he discussed common heritage and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Sunak joked that, as we’ve heard this week, AI can do a lot. But it cannot fix Delhi’s traffic right now.
Sunak said AI can do a lot of things, as we saw this week, but it can’t improve Delhi’s traffic right now. But what was witnessed this week was truly extraordinary. This is not only the result of the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but also the energy of everyone present here, who is engaged in developing and using this technology. This energy does not exist anywhere else in the world. This is the reason why according to Stanford’s global ranking, India is now in a prominent position as an AI superpower. It is a matter of pride for all of you.
When Lammy introduced Sunak, he said that former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is a great son not only of Britain but also of India. This Sunak stopped Lammy and immediately said in a joking tone – Son-in-law. Due to this the audience present there also started laughing. After this Lammy also jokingly replied – Son-in-law.
During the discussion, David Lammy also threw light on his Indian roots. He told that his great grandmother was from Kolkata. Apart from this, he also praised his friendship with former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Lammy further clarified his connection with India. He said, I also want to establish my legacy, because my great grandmother on my mother’s side was from Kolkata.
Lammy stressed that even though they have different political viewpoints, they can still work together. He especially talked about focusing on common goals for Britain and the whole world. He said that even though he and Sunaki have different political parties, they can still work together. He said, we are from different political parties. But we can work together and have been friends for many years.
He added that it has been a great pleasure in recent years to work closely with former Prime Minister Sunak on their common goal of improving prostate cancer in the UK and the world. He also said that it was a pleasure for him to work with him on an issue with such political differences.
When the discussion turned to artificial intelligence, Lammy told Sunak: “You started the first global AI summit at Bletchley Park. Why did this issue seem important to you at that time? Why did you use your platform to tell the world that this is important? And now what do you think was the effect of this effort?
Lammy’s comments came at a time when Britain and India are discussing strengthening relations. These include cooperation in areas such as trade, technology and security. Both Britain and India are looking for ways to deepen their strategic partnership.
Responding to this, Sunak thanked Lammy and said hello to the audience. He started the discussion with the global importance of AI and the growing India-UK technology partnership. Former Prime Minister Sunak said that India is the best place to shape the future of AI. He said there was ‘no better place’ to discuss the global AI transformation. He also praised India’s digital public infrastructure, innovation system and people’s enthusiasm for technology.
Delivering the keynote address at the AI Impact Summit, Sunak said India is uniquely positioned to drive the next global phase of AI. This is important not only for developed countries but also for developing countries. Sunak said, we need a regular forum where everyone can come together to discuss AI and related technology. He said that this is the platform provided through this summit and under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this summit will make an impact. He said, the objective of this summit is to show that AI can be used not only for developed countries but also for developing countries.
Sunak said, there can be no better place than India to discuss the transformation of AI. He also said that through this summit it will be shown how AI can improve health and education in every corner of the world and enhance human dignity.

He also said that leading laboratories are now collaborating with Britain’s AI Security Institute to test AI models to ensure security standards before implementing them.
He said that AI security and AI progress both go hand in hand. Public trust will ultimately determine how successful AI is, especially in the government sector, where people can directly experience faster services, better healthcare and easier government processes. Sunak also said that the debate on AI becomes real when people can see clear and concrete benefits of it in their lives.
