Uttarakhand crosses 1 gigawatt solar energy mark, big leap in green energy

Uttarakhand News: Uttarakhand has achieved a major achievement in the field of renewable energy and the total installed solar energy capacity of the state has crossed 1 GW. According to the latest data, the solar energy production capacity in the state has now crossed 1027.87 MW. This is being considered an important step towards clean and green energy.

CM Dhami expressed happiness

Expressing happiness over this achievement, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that this success is the result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and policies promoting renewable energy. He said that inspired by the vision of “self-reliant India” and green energy, solar energy has been transformed into a mass movement in the state. Due to better coordination of schemes of Central and State Government, new employment opportunities have also been created for the youth and local entrepreneurs.

Important role of many schemes

Many schemes have played an important role in increasing solar capacity in the state. Of these, a capacity of 397 MW has been installed from ground mounted solar plant, 241 MW from rooftop solar (PM Suryaghar Yojana) and 137 MW from Mukhyamantri Solar Self-Employment Scheme. Apart from this, 110 MW capacity has been installed from commercial net metering, 51 MW from captive solar plant, 37 MW from Canal Top and Canal Bank projects and 26 MW capacity has been installed on government buildings.

New plants are being established

At present, new plants of more than 100 MW capacity are being established under the Chief Minister Solar Self-Employment Scheme. Besides, additional capacity is also being developed on captive solar and government buildings. Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) has played an important role in this achievement. The agency has worked to deliver solar projects to remote and mountainous areas, provide technical guidance and increase public awareness.

Aim to ensure participation of common people

The state government has set a target to further increase solar energy capacity in future, encourage investment and ensure participation of common people. This achievement is being considered a strong step towards energy self-reliance, environmental protection and sustainable development.
