Ramadan 2026: Good news for government Muslim employees, these 2 states allowed early leave from office

To help employees reach home on time and prepare for Iftar after a long fasting period, the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments have issued an official order (GO). Under this, Muslim employees will now be able to leave the office 1 hour before their scheduled time.1. Telangana Government AnnouncementThe General Administration Department (GAD) of Telangana has issued orders that all Muslim government employees of the state can go home from office at 4:00 pm for the entire month of Ramzan (from 19th February to 20th March 2026). Who will get the benefit: Teachers, contract employees, outsourcing staff, and employees working in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). Exception: If the employee is present in an emergency or in an essential service. If it is mandatory, they may have to stop.2. Andhra Pradesh Government’s announcement: On similar lines, Andhra Pradesh government has also issued a circular to give leave 1 hour before the closing time of the office to the Muslim community employees, teachers and contractual workers. Period: This concession will be effective from 18th February to 19th March 2026. Purpose: The government says that this decision was taken to save the fasting people from heavy traffic at the time of religious rituals and Iftar. Opposition’s reaction and debate: Political debate has also started in Telangana regarding this decision. The BJP has criticized the move, calling it ‘appeasement politics’ and asking whether similar concessions will be given during Hindu festivals (like Navratri)? At the same time, the ruling party says that this is an old tradition which has been going on for years so that people of all religions can celebrate their festivals peacefully. Situation in other states: In Maharashtra too, parties like AIMIM have demanded that on the lines of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Muslim employees should be given concessions during Ramzan. However, at present only these two states have officially announced it.
