End of poisonous refinery among the population… LDA demolished gold and silver smelting factory
Lucknow, Read: The Lucknow Development Authority has closed down the illegal gold and silver smelting refinery which was poisoning the population due to the poisonous smoke rising from it for six months in Surangi Tola under Chowk. While demolishing the furnaces, its operator has been warned to remove the refinery within a week. People around have felt relieved by this action.

Six months ago, a refinery for smelting gold and silver was set up illegally in a residential area by a person in a house in Surangi Tola. More than 40 houses have been built in the locality and hundreds of families live in them. In the refinery, gold and silver were melted through acid furnaces. Its smoke day and night was causing harm to the environment and people. Especially the elderly had trouble breathing. When people protested against the refinery, the owner did not remove it. When a complaint was made to the Pollution Control Board through Surangi Tola Mohalla Committee, the team investigated.
Illegal refinery found running among the population. A notice was issued to the owner stating that it was harmful for the environment and the local people. Even after this, the operators running the refinery did not agree. After this, a letter was written to the Secretary of Lucknow Development Authority for action. Meanwhile, the people of the committee met Vice President Prathamesh Kumar. On his instructions, the Zone-7 team took action on Wednesday. The refinery was closed by breaking the furnaces on the spot.

Zonal officer Madhavesh Kumar said that the owner himself has asked for a week’s time to remove the refinery. If the building is not vacated then sealing will be done. A letter has been written to the Pollution Control Board and LDA through Surangi Tola Committee. In this, the residents of the locality have signed and filed a complaint. An elderly resident among the residents had even sent his report regarding respiratory disease to the concerned responsible departments. After this action has been taken. About 40 houses and two and a half members live where the refinery is running.
