India joins ‘Pax Silica’ alliance today
India today (February 20) formally joined the US-led ‘Pax Silica’ alliance. By joining this strategic initiative, New Delhi has taken an important step towards securing semiconductor supply chains and advancing Artificial Intelligence cooperation. This is being seen as a decisive shift in India’s foreign policy towards high-technology partnerships. Through this initiative, India has put aside recent trade differences and signaled cooperation with the US on core technologies that define modern economic power.
Let it be known that ‘Pax Silica’ was started during a high-level summit held in Washington in December 2025. This initiative was presented as a roadmap for a global economy based on innovation. The foundation’s manifesto committed to securing the entire technological value chain, from rare mineral resources to software architectures to advanced artificial intelligence.

This global alliance includes Australia, Greece, Israel, Japan, Qatar, South Korea, Singapore, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom. India’s entry came after a formal invitation from US Ambassador Sergio Gore.
Under Secretary for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg, explaining the concept of this initiative, said that data and silicon are today’s oil and steel. The 21st century economy depends on computers and the critical minerals needed to make them, such as lithium and cobalt. Pax Silica aims to keep these resources secure and accessible between trusted partner countries.
During the signing ceremony of the Pax Silica announcement between India and the US, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, said, “…Pax Silica aims to ensure that supply chains are secure and foster greater commercial partnerships in critical technologies. So I congratulate the US and India on this historic moment. Along with the recent trade agreement, this will lay a strong foundation for a strong US-India tech partnership for many years to come.”

At the heart of this alliance is the recognition that Artificial Intelligence is not just a tool, but a transformative force reshaping global supply chains and energy demand. Given the rapid pace of the AI revolution, huge energy grids and specialized semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure are required. Member countries aim to maximize the economic potential of an AI-based future through coordination of standards and resources.
The main objective of Pax Silica is to reduce technological dependence and prevent the dominance of any one country. At a time when trade and technology can become tools of geopolitical coercion, the framework focuses on building a secure and resilient ‘silicon ecosystem’ through shared digital infrastructure.
This step of India is being considered important towards long-term economic security, innovation-based development and technological self-reliance. The government believes that this partnership will strengthen India’s role in the global chip supply chain and will give new impetus to cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.
