India’s entry in Pax Silica, AI and chip industry will get a huge boost.

New Delhi: India has taken a big step towards global technology and strategic supply chains. India signed documents to formally join the US-led strategic alliance Pax Silica during the India AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi on Friday. This decision not only gives new impetus to India’s technological ambitions, but may also affect the global balance in the field of rare minerals and artificial intelligence (AI).

With the signing of this declaration, India has now become a part of the international framework that aims to create secure, reliable and resilient supply chains for critical minerals, semiconductors and AI. This initiative has come at a time when China is maintaining a strong hold globally in the processing and supply of rare minerals. Pax Silica has been created with the aim of reducing this dependency.

New strength to India-US relations

This step is considered important towards further deepening the strategic partnership between India and the United States. Both countries have been trying in recent months to finalize a trade agreement and put aside their differences to increase cooperation. India’s participation in Pax Silica is a link to this effort.

Semiconductor and electronics will get a boost

After the signing of the agreement, Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this alliance will be of great benefit to India’s electronics and semiconductor sector. He said that many semiconductor plants have already been established in the country and soon the first plant will start commercial production. Due to this, a strong technical ecosystem is being created in India, which will directly benefit the youth and startups.

Why is India important in the eyes of America?

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gore described India’s participation as strategically important. According to him, India’s engineering talent, growing capacity in mineral processing and strong possibilities of technical cooperation strengthen this alliance. He also said that the aim of Pax Silica is to promote trustworthy AI on a global scale.

What is Pax Silica?

Pax Silica is a US-led strategic alliance launched with the aim of securing the global supply chain for AI and semiconductors. It is led by Jacob Helberg, US Deputy Secretary of Economic Affairs. This initiative is indicative of a new economy that will be based on silicon and critical minerals instead of oil and steel.

At present, China dominates the processing of rare earth elements, due to which there is a danger of supply disruption to many countries. Pax Silica aims to create a reliable alternative that does not harm industries in times of geopolitical crises.

Why is this initiative important for India?

India has both skilled human resources and untapped mineral wealth. This alliance can reduce India’s dependence on China, especially in the matter of import of rare minerals. Also, new avenues of cooperation can open with technologically advanced countries like Japan and Netherlands. This initiative is in line with India’s National Critical Mineral Mission and Semiconductor Mission, which are working towards making the country technologically self-reliant.
