News India Live, Digital Desk: There was a stir in Sihora under Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday night when a dispute that started during Aarti at a religious place turned into a violent clash. Due to the temple and mosque being opposite to each other in Azad Chowk area, the situation became very sensitive and stone pelting started immediately. The police took immediate action in this matter and have so far detained 15 miscreants.
How did the controversy start?
According to the information received, the incident took place in ward number 5 of Sihora. Aarti was going on in the Durga temple at around 9 pm on Thursday night, at the same time it was time for namaz in the nearby mosque. It is being told that youths from two sides clashed over some dispute related to the sound of the loudspeaker and the grill of the temple. The argument escalated so much that it escalated into a fight and within a short time, heavy stone pelting started from both sides.
The area was converted into a police camp.
As soon as the news of stone pelting was received, senior police officers of Jabalpur, including IG, DIG and SP Sampat Upadhyay, reached the spot with heavy police force. The police also had to resort to tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. At present, additional forces have been deployed in the entire Azad Chowk and surrounding areas and the situation is said to be under control.
15 in custody, investigation ongoing
Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay has confirmed that more than 15 suspects have been detained based on CCTV footage and eyewitnesses. Police are identifying the miscreants and are preparing for strict legal action. Sihora MLA Santosh Barkade also spoke to senior officials after getting information about the incident and appealed to maintain peace.
Administration’s appeal
The Collector and SP have appealed to the local citizens not to pay attention to rumors and maintain peace. As a precaution, police patrolling has been increased at sensitive points.
