Experienced cricket umpire Manik Gupta has died in this attack. Manik was a famous umpire in the Kanpur cricket circuit and was also associated with the Kanpur Cricket Association. Manik’s brother Amit Kumar Gupta said that after the match, when Manik went to meet his fellow umpires during the drinks break, a swarm of bees suddenly attacked everyone present. He further said that while trying to escape, Manik suddenly lost his balance and fell down and was attacked by bees. Manik was an umpire for almost 30 years and was a State Panel Umpire.

Amit Kumar Gupta said, “His match was over and his fellow umpire was officiating in a different match. When there was a drinks break, Manik approached him. While they were both drinking tea, a swarm of bees came from behind and attacked everyone present. While trying to escape from the bees, he tripped and fell. The entire swarm of bees attacked him. The bees also attacked others.

Umpire Manik Gupta’s associate umpire Jagdish Sharma said, “During the drinks break, a swarm of bees attacked us. When everyone was lying on the ground, the bees attacked everyone present. Manik was brutally attacked.”

Bharatendu Puri, a neighbor of umpire Manik Gupta, said, “Manik Gupta dedicated his entire life as an umpire and to support his family.” Bharatendu Puri described Gupta as completely dedicated to cricket, and described the incident as unfortunate. He was a famous Panch and Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) He was a member of the Cricket Association.
