‘You have ended the players’ dream of playing the World Cup…’ Bangladeshi coach slammed the former government’s decision.

Bangladesh T20 World Cup Boycott Row As soon as the government changed in Bangladesh, an uproar has started over the decision of not playing T20 World Cup 2026. Now the former interim government and the cricket board are blaming each other for this decision. Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin has termed former sports advisor Asif Nazrul as a liar. This comment came on Nazrul’s statement in which he emphasized that the decision to boycott the tournament was taken by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the cricketers.

In fact, former sports advisor Asif Nazrul had changed his stance after the team took part in the T20 World Cup. Nazrul had initially said that this decision was taken by the government. However, just before leaving office, he said that the decision was taken by the board and the players. Salahuddin strongly criticized Nazrul on this U-turn. “He lied very clearly,” Salahuddin said. “I’m a teacher myself, and teachers usually lie a little less. He would lie so openly – I really can’t imagine. How would I show my face in front of the boys? He made such a U-turn.”

Bangladesh’s assistant coach said, “He (Nazrul) is a teacher, and a teacher at Dhaka University. Someone from the biggest educational institution of my country is telling such a lie – we cannot believe this. How can we believe this? He said something first and then took a U-turn.” Salahuddin was saddened by the national cricketers missing the World Cup, calling the decision a “dream-killer” for the players.

He said, “When a boy goes to play the World Cup, he takes his dream – his 27-year-old dream – with him. You end that dream in a second. Okay, if this decision has been taken for national reasons, they will sacrifice for the country. But if you talk about loss, I will only talk about personal loss. Personally, you have completely ended a boy’s dream. I know two of my players were numb for days.” Were done, were completely lost.”

Salahuddin said, “The fact that we were able to get him back on the field in this tournament is a big thing in itself. I think that is the biggest success of my coaching life – that he came back on the field and scored runs again. A person dreams of playing the World Cup for many years. Money is a factor, but it is small. What really matters is the World Cup he has dreamed of his whole life – he wanted to play that World Cup.”

He further said, “For the sake of the country, I am also ready to give up a lot, and the boys are also ready. But did I put my hand on any boy’s head and say, ‘Son, you could not play because of this’? If things had been explained properly, I think a lot of things could have been accepted.”
