Banda Court of Uttar Pradesh on Friday resolved a case which shook the entire state. The husband and wife living in Chitrakoot, who sexually exploited children and sold obscene videos internationally on the dark web, were sentenced by the court to hanging till death. CBI investigation revealed that both of them committed heinous crimes with more than 50 children and exploited them and made videos.
Earlier on February 18, the POCSO court had convicted both of them. In the court, Judge Pradeep Kumar Mishra clearly said – ‘Both the husband and wife should be kept hanged till they die.’ This disgusting case not only challenged the legal system but also shook the moral and humanitarian values of the society.
Who are they and how did they exploit children?
Ram Bhavan (55) of Banda was a JE in the Irrigation Department in Chitrakoot, while his wife Durgavati (50) was a housewife. Both of them had no children. Their main method was to trap children from poor families by luring them. The age of the children was between 5 to 16 years.
What did this couple do with the children?
Both husband and wife together used to molest the children. The wife used to have relations with the children, while Ram Bhavan used to commit adultery with them. Used to make obscene videos using laptop and camera and sell them on the dark web. Any child who protested would be silenced by beating. Children are lured by lure like money, mobile phone or toys.
Arrest and CBI investigation
On 31 October 2020, CBI registered a case against Ram Bhavan. The allegation was that he used to make obscene videos/photos of children and send them to the international pedophile network. Rambhavan and Durgavati were arrested on 17 November 2020.
When was the charge sheet filed and how many witnesses were there?
A 700-page charge sheet was filed on the 88th day of the arrest. It included statements and digital evidence of people aged between 4 to 42 years. A total of 74 witnesses were presented in the POCSO court. CBI investigation revealed that the accused were using Rs 8 lakh in cash, electronic storage devices including mobile, laptop, webcam, pen drive and memory card.
International exploitation of children
POCSO court advocate Kamal Singh said that the couple sold obscene videos and photos of children in 47 countries including China, America, Brazil and Afghanistan. His child victims were treated at Delhi AIIMS.
How was this dirty game caught?
Answer: Interpol reported that a person was making porn videos of children aged 7 to 18 years and uploading them on the internet from 3 mobile numbers. 34 videos and 679 photos were found in the pen drive. After tracing it was found that Ram Bhavan and Durgavati were doing this work.
Court order and help to victimized children
POCSO Court Judge Pradeep Kumar Mishra ordered that both of them should be hanged till death. The advocate also demanded that an amount of Rs 10 lakh each be given to the victim children. This case is a warning to society and law that no government position or education can cover up a heinous crime.
