One year of Rekha Gupta government completed, why are the people of Delhi remembering Kejriwal?
India’s capital Delhi is at the center of political debate these days. #SufferingDelhiMissesKejriwal is trending on social media, which the opposition is calling a reflection of public sentiment. In many areas, people are seen comparing the work of the previous and present government, due to which the political atmosphere has become heated.
AAP government in Delhi from 2025
Before February 2025, there was Aam Aadmi Party government in the capital under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal. Party supporters describe that period as a time of change and relief. Mohalla clinics were said to be a model of affordable and accessible health care, where common people got free treatment. Improvement in infrastructure of government schools and better examination results were also presented as achievements. Subsidy given on electricity and water was considered a big relief for the middle class and economically weaker families. At that time “Delhi Model” was made a topic of discussion at the national and international level.
However, after February 2025 the political scenario changed. The Bharatiya Janata Party, which came to power, took over the government with new priorities and Rekha Gupta took over the responsibility of the post of Chief Minister. Since then, the Aam Aadmi Party has been continuously alleging that within a year the pace of many public welfare schemes has slowed down. In some areas, questions are being raised on the functioning of mohalla clinics.
What is the opposition’s claim?
The opposition claims that the problem of traffic jam is becoming serious again and the expected strictness regarding pollution control is not visible. There have been reports of dissatisfaction regarding water supply and sanitation system in many colonies. The government says that development work is going on and work is being done on new schemes.
This question is being raised again and again in social media and local discussions whether the situation is better now than before or not. Some people are remembering the earlier relief in electricity bill and education system, while some are expressing hope from the present government that it is focusing on long-term development.
The impact of Delhi politics is also seen at the national level. A year is considered a time of initial evaluation for any government, but the expectations of the people of the capital always remain high. At present the debate is going on. The opposition is calling it public resentment, while the government is calling it a political campaign. The final decision will depend on the time to come and public opinion.
