US Supreme Court overturns Trump’s tariffs in 6–3 decision

The US Supreme Court has overturned former President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariff measures, ruling 6–3 that the policy was unconstitutional.

In its decision, the court found that Trump exceeded his executive authority by using a federal emergency-powers law to impose broad “reciprocal” tariffs globally, along with targeted import duties that the administration had said were intended to combat issues such as fentanyl trafficking.

The ruling delivers a major legal blow to Trump’s trade strategy, which had relied heavily on expansive tariff actions as a cornerstone of his economic policy. The court’s majority opinion emphasized that such wide-ranging trade measures require proper statutory backing and cannot be justified solely under emergency powers.

More details are awaited. This is a developing story.
