1 big good news in Bihar, great news for the farmers of the state

Patna. This is a time of change and new opportunities for the farmers of Bihar. While earlier traditional crops were the main source of income, now cultivation of high-value crops is becoming increasingly popular in the state. Especially the cultivation of exotic fruits like strawberry has shown the farmers the way to better earning in less time. The ambitious “Strawberry Development Scheme” of the state government is playing an important role behind this change.

Why is this initiative special?

The objective of this scheme is not only to encourage farmers for farming, but also to provide support in the entire chain from production to packaging and marketing. The government understands that along with good production, safe packaging and access to the right market are equally important. For this reason, up to 40 percent subsidy is being given on the packaging material of strawberries.

Help is also available on farming

Under the scheme, farmers are being given assistance of up to Rs 3,02,400 per hectare, which is 40 percent of the total cost. This amount is transferred directly to the bank account. Strawberry is a short duration crop, which provides quick income to the farmers. Also, its demand is continuously increasing in urban markets, hotels and processing industries.

Golden opportunity to increase income

Strawberry cultivation can give more profits to farmers than traditional crops. With scientific farming, better irrigation system and proper care, good yield is possible even in less land. Providing subsidy on packaging will reduce wastage of the product and make it easier to reach far-flung markets.

Who can avail the benefits?

Only those farmers who are residents of Bihar, who have valid farmer registration and whose bank account is linked to Aadhaar can avail the benefit of this scheme. The application process has been kept online, so that transparency is maintained and farmers do not have to visit offices.
