Especially diabetes patients are coming to buy red rice considering it beneficial for health. Its price has been kept at ₹150 to ₹200 per kg, which has become the center of attraction in the market.
Red rice, traditionally grown in the hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh, is now making its mark in other parts of the country as well. Its special demand has been seen especially in Uttar Pradesh. Due to the rich amount of iron, fiber and antioxidants in this rice, it has become an excellent choice for health conscious consumers.
According to agricultural experts, red rice is cultivated using organic methods without chemical fertilizers and pesticides, due to which its quality and taste remain better. Due to the increasing demand for this rice, local self-help groups and farmers are now also paying attention to its packaging and branding. Many traders of Uttar Pradesh have now started contacting farmers directly and purchasing it in large quantities, due to which farmers are getting fair prices and the role of middlemen has reduced.
If this trend continues, Himachal Pradesh’s red rice can become a strong brand at the national level, which will not only increase the income of farmers but also provide a nutritious and pure food option to consumers.
