Arshiya Das: 15-year-old Arshiya Das from Tripura created history in the world of chess by becoming the first Woman International Master (WIM) from North Eastern India. Arshiya Das from North East is 15 years old and is studying under ICSE board at Holy Cross School, Agartala. Along with studies, she is also making her own identity in chess. His school and classmates help him to balance both studies and sports, so that he can make a name for himself in the world of chess.
Arshia’s chess journey begins
According to Arshia’s parents, she was once taken to the mall when she was very young. There Arshia saw the chess board and insisted that it was the same game she had seen on the laptop, and she wanted it. After this Arshia gradually started taking interest in chess, and her parents fully supported her. Initially, Arshia got S. for two consecutive years. Received Krishnan scholarship. Under this, he was given Rs 50,000 every year. This help helped him become better at chess.
From under-7 national to global stage
Then at the age of six, Arshiya made it to the top 10 in the under-7 national tournament. The next year, in 2017, he participated in the same tournament and won the bronze medal. This success was a matter of pride for her family and they looked at Arshiya’s talent more seriously. After this Arshiya also performed well at the international level. He won gold and bronze medals in Uzbekistan and represented India in the World Cadet Championship in Spain.

- Arshia begins her WIM Norms journey in April 2025 from UAE. In the Asian Individual Championships held there, he scored 5 out of 9 and played brilliantly with a rating of 2247. Her notable wins in this tournament came against WGM Munkhjul Turmunkh and WIM Karimova Guldona.
- Then in early 2026, Arshia reached Serbia and took part in the 12th GM Mix tournament. This time he scored 4.5/9 points and added 71 Elo points. His win against FM Rupesh Reddy in the tournament was also memorable.
- Ultimately he completed his third and final WIM Norm at the 42nd Rudar IM Norm Round Robin Tournament. Arshia won the tournament by scoring 6.5/9 points and added 100 Elo points. During this time he defeated many strong players, including FM Mihailo Jokic, WIM Prishita Gupta, Anjaneya Phatak, GM Branko Damljanovic and GM Vladimir Raisevich.
