Bumrah’s ‘sweet revenge’ over Saim Ayub goes viral
A high-octane “mini-battle” between India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Pakistan’s Saim Ayub has become the global face of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
During India’s 61-run victory at the R. Premadasa Stadium, what started as an audacious assault by the young Pakistani opener quickly turned into a masterclass of pace bowling that has left fans and analysts in awe.
The drama unfolded in the second over of Pakistan’s chase. Saim Ayub, known for his fearless “no-look” shots, charged down the track to Bumrah’s first delivery, sending a top-edged flick over third man for a 69-meter six.
However, the veteran Indian pacer’s response was immediate and lethal. On the very next ball, Bumrah produced a searing, late-swinging full delivery that trapped Ayub dead in front of the wickets.
The “twist” trending online is the sheer perfection of the delivery; while many batters have found ways to counter standard yorkers, Ayub appeared completely frozen by the pace.
Ayub desperately opted for a DRS review but as the tracking showed the ball hitting the middle of the leg stump, he had to depart for 6.
Before the match, Ayub had played down the hype, stating, “Definitely, it is a challenge but the biggest challenge is to make the team win.”
Despite the early fire, Pakistan crumbled to 114 all out. Reflecting on his aggressive approach, Ayub had previously noted, “We are just trying to play fearless cricket against every team.”
Unfortunately for Pakistan, Bumrah’s “sweet revenge” ensured that fearlessness met its match.
