PAK vs NZ: What will happen if Pakistan vs New Zealand clash is called off in Colombo?

NEW DELHI: The Super 8s of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 began in unusual fashion as heavy rain halted the Pakistan vs New Zealand clash moments after the toss at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Drizzle started soon after the coin flip and quickly turned into steady rain.

Within minutes, the groundsmen covered almost the entire playing area. Dark clouds hung over the venue and there were hardly any positive signs from the weather.

With the second stage of this summit tournament now underway, both teams will be hoping the rain stops because there is so much at stake. As per the playing conditions, the cut off time for a five over contest is 10:16 pm IST. If the weather does not improve by then, the match will be called off.

The big question among fans is simple. What happens if the game washes out?

According to rules, both teams will be awarded one point each. That single point each could make the journey ahead far more complicated.

Another defeat from here for either side could almost push them towards elimination. With England and Sri Lanka also in the group, winning every single game becomes mandatory to stay alive in the race for the semifinals and the final.

Pakistan will next face England on 24 February in Pallekele. New Zealand will return to the same Colombo venue on 25 February to take on co host Sri Lanka.
