DigiYatra at Navi Mumbai Airport: There is a very good news for air travelers. Now followed by Delhi’s IGI Airport At Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) The much awaited ‘DigiYatra’ facility has officially started. This digital service has been operationalized in just two months after the commencement of commercial operations. As part of a nationwide drive by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the facility has been made available at five other airports in the country including Navi Mumbai from today.

Ribbon cutting by passengers at the airport

The facility was inaugurated via remote and was broadcast live to the passengers present in the airport terminal. Interestingly, three passengers experienced the service by actually using the ‘Digiyatra e-gates’ and cutting the ribbon at the biometric entry point. The system is entirely based on ‘facial recognition technology’, which eliminates the need for passengers to show documents.

Fast access in less time; Ensure data security

The Navi Mumbai Airport Authority has clarified that the Digiyatra facility will significantly reduce the waiting time at security checkpoints.

  • Document Free Travel: Passengers will no longer need to show their boarding pass or identity card at every step.
  • Secure data: Passengers’ privacy has been fully taken care of and all data will be encrypted.
  • Privacy: Passenger information is automatically deleted from the system after 24 hours of travel, ensuring security.

How does ‘Digiyatra’ system work?

Digiyatra is an ambitious project of Government of India under ‘Digital India’. In this, the passenger’s face is known as his ‘passport’ and ‘boarding pass’.

1. Registration: The passenger has to link his information and Aadhaar on the Digiyatra app.

2. Ticket Linking: After booking the ticket, the boarding pass has to be scanned in the app, which is linked to your face.

3. Airport Procedures: A camera at the entry gate scans your face and automatically opens the door in just 5 to 10 seconds. The same process is then followed at the security check and boarding gate.

Facilities available at major airports of the country

Currently, this facility is available for domestic travel only at airports in Delhi, Mumbai (CSMIA), Bangalore and other major cities including Navi Mumbai. Considering the increasing crowd and increasing flow of passengers, this facility will be a big relief for the passengers at Navi Mumbai Airport. If you too are ready for the next journey, then instead of standing in the queue, make sure to take advantage of this modern ‘Digiyatra’ facility.
