Temperature starts scorching in Delhi… Meteorological Department estimates, mercury will be 33 degrees in March itself.
Delhi. Due to increase in minimum temperature in the national capital, the heat has started increasing gradually. The Meteorological Department said on Saturday that with bright sunshine in the capital, the minimum temperature was 14.2 degrees Celsius, which is about 2.4 degrees more than normal. The department has indicated that the temperature is expected to rise in the next six days. The minimum and maximum temperatures may be up to five degrees above normal. According to the department’s estimates, the day temperature in the city is also likely to increase rapidly.
The maximum temperature may rise by more than five degrees above normal and cross the 30 degree mark by Friday next week and reach 33 degrees. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature on Friday was recorded at 28.4 degrees Celsius, which was 2.9 degrees above normal. It is expected to remain between 27-29 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Despite the rising temperature, south-westerly winds were blowing at a speed of 13 kilometers per hour in Delhi in the last 24 hours.
According to the department, there is a possibility of continuous winds next week. The wind speed is expected to reach 20 kilometers per hour during the day. Strong winds can help spread pollutants near the surface. This is expected to reduce the pollution level. The air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 197 in the moderate category at 10 am on Saturday.
According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, this was better than Friday’s average AQI of 210. The Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS) has predicted the AQI to remain in the ‘poor’ category till Monday. After this it may fluctuate between ‘poor’ and ‘moderate’ range.
