Shikhar Dhawan begins new chapter, marries Sophie Shine in private ceremony
Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has embarked on a new journey in his personal life. The 39-year-old, who drew the curtains on his 14-year cricket career in August 2024, married his long-time partner Sophie Shine in an intimate ceremony on February 21, attended by close friends and family.
The private wedding came to public attention after Dhawan’s former India teammate Yuzvendra Chahal shared pictures from the celebration on Instagram. Captioning the post with the popular Bollywood line “Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai,” Chahal offered fans their first glimpse of the ceremony.

Dhawan looked elegant in a cream-coloured sherwani with subtle floral motifs, while Sophie matched him in a lehenga featuring similar patterns. Their coordinated outfits added a graceful charm to the occasion.
The couple had been dating for over a year and first sparked rumors during the 2025 Champions Trophy in Dubai, where they were spotted together in the stands. In the months that followed, they appeared together at public events, with Dhawan subtly hinting at finding happiness again. They officially confirmed the relationship in May 2025, and on January 12 this year, the two announced their engagement on social media.
Who is Sophie Shine?
Sophie Shine is an Irish product consultant currently working as Second Vice President – Product Consultant at Northern Trust Corporation, a US-based financial services firm. Reports suggest that she met Dhawan in the UAE, where she is currently based.
She pursued Marketing and Management at the Limerick Institute of Technology and completed her schooling at Castleroy College in Ireland. Though she initially maintained a low profile, Sophie gradually became a familiar face to cricket fans during overseas tournaments.
This marks Dhawan’s second marriage. He was previously married to Aesha Mukherjee in 2011. The couple separated in October 2023, ending their 11-year marriage. They share a son, Zoravar.
While granting the divorce, a Delhi court observed that Dhawan had endured mental distress and noted that he had been separated from his son for several years. Though permanent custody was not awarded to him, the court granted visitation rights and permitted video calls of reasonable duration in India and Australia, where Aesha resides. Dhawan later stated that he was eventually blocked from virtual communication with his son as well.
