New revolution of electricity in Bihar: Nuclear power plants to be set up in 3 districts
Patna. Preparations are underway for major changes in the energy sector in Bihar. The state government has started work rapidly on the plan to set up a nuclear power plant. Under this scheme, survey and land assessment of potential sites is being done in Banka, Nawada and Siwan districts. Special priority is being given to the proposed nuclear project, so that stable and clean energy can be available in the state.
First nuclear power plant in Nawada
The state’s first nuclear power plant will be set up at Rajauli in Nawada district. The estimated cost of this project is approximately Rs 20 thousand crores. Shambhuganj and Bhitiya areas of Banka district have also been found suitable from technical point of view. This project will not be limited to power generation only, but it will also develop new opportunities for industrial investment and employment.
Pumped Storage and Solar Projects
Work is also underway on pumped storage projects to strengthen energy security in Bihar. Solar power plants are being developed on 1231 acres in Kajra of Lakhisarai. Apart from this, pumped storage projects are being constructed by Greenco and Sun Petrochemicals with an investment of Rs 13 thousand crores. These projects will ensure supply at the time of need by securing surplus power.
Clean Energy and Net Zero Emissions
The importance of this scheme also increases because India has set the target of net zero carbon emissions by 2070. Currently about 75 percent of electricity is generated from coal-based sources. In such a situation, options like small modular reactor and nuclear power will play an important role in providing clean, affordable and stable energy to the state.
Big step towards energy self-sufficiency
This initiative of Bihar will not only solve the power crisis but will also prove to be a decisive step in taking the state towards energy self-sufficiency. Nuclear power plants and pumped storage projects will contribute significantly to the development of industries, employment generation and environmental sustainability in the state.
