Allegations of rigging in Dumka civic elections, late night ruckus in Gandhi Nagar

Dumka: As soon as the Municipal Council election campaign ended, allegations of election rigging have heated up the atmosphere in Dumka. Late night in the Gandhi Nagar locality, there was a clash between two parties over alleged distribution of money, after which the police had to intervene. Local people allege that presidential candidate Abhishek Chaurasia reached the locality with his supporters and tried to influence the voters by giving them money. On protesting, the altercation escalated and the matter reached a clash. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and detained two people from the locality and took them to the police station.

An employee on municipal election duty in Ranchi died under suspicious circumstances, dead body found inside a vehicle parked at Morhabadi Dispatch Centre.
Angered by the police action, the local people reached the police station and started demanding the release of the two, but the police removed the crowd from there. People of the locality say that instead of taking action against the culprits, the administration has picked up innocent people, due to which questions are being raised on the impartiality of the administration. Local resident Shubham Kumar alleged that caste-based abuses and threats were made by the candidate. He says that this is a Dalit dominated locality and efforts are being made to influence votes by showing dominance. People also claimed that blanket distribution had been done in the last few months and now voters were being wooed by distributing money just before the elections.

Meanwhile, BJP District President Rupesh Mandal alleged that the election is being influenced through money power by the undeclared candidate of JMM. He warned that if the administration does not take impartial action, BJP will be forced to stage a dharna. On the other hand, Abhishek Chaurasia rejected the allegations and said that it was the supporters of Ajay Jha alias Mickey who had come to distribute the money, who were caught and handed over to the police. He has demanded from the administration to make the civic elections to be held on February 23 fair.

After the name came up in this case, Ajay Jha alias Mickey also gave a strong reaction and said that the truth will come out after examining the CCTV footage. He demanded strict action against the culprits and said that if necessary, he will complain to the Election Commission. The media sought information from SDPO Vijay Kumar Mahato present at the spot, but he did not give any response. Now the big question is whether the administration will conduct a fair investigation in this matter and will the Dumka civic elections be conducted in a peaceful and transparent manner? Allegations of election rigging raised the temperature of local politics.
