Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two big projects of Railways on February 22, 2026. Both the projects are from the capital Delhi to Meerut. The first and biggest of these is the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail between Delhi and Meerut and the second is the Rapid Metro for Meerut. As soon as these two projects are inaugurated, commuting from Delhi to Meerut will become quicker and easier.
Meerut will get the double gift of rail transport by inaugurating the remaining part of PM Modi Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) i.e. NaMo Bharat and the metro service. Both these projects will ease the commuting of lakhs of people of Delhi, Ghaziabad, Noida and Delhi and will also save time and money. Why the people of Meerut who come to Delhi-NCR daily for jobs, can from now on work and go back to their homes by Rapid Metro.

PM Modi spoke before the inauguration
From now on, passengers will be able to travel from Meerut South to Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi by rapid rail. It is a 82.15 Km long high-speed corridor between Delhi and Meerut. Before the inauguration, PM Modi wrote on Twitter, ‘We are committed to the rapid expansion of rail connectivity across the country including Uttar Pradesh. In this direction, Meerut will get the privilege of inauguration of the country’s fastest Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat train. After this, I will dedicate the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to the nation along with the inauguration of other sections of the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel by rapid rail from Shatabdi Nagar station to Meerut South station along with school children and workers. After this, he will address the public meeting at the ground of Integrated Township of Mohiuddinpur.
What is Namo Bharat Train?
NaMo India is a rail based high speed and modern transport system equipped with high facilities. This train is being run with the aim of bridging the distance between people and cities in Delhi-NCR. Its design speed is 180 kilometers per hour and operating speed is 90 kilometers per hour. This service will directly connect major urban areas like Delhi, Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, Modinagar and Meerut.
NaMo Bharat is not only high speed but also reliability, safety, comfort and environment friendly. This train will deliver passengers on time and without delay. New opportunities for employment, housing and business will be created in this area through better connectivity.

Highlights of Namo Bharat Corridor
- Corridor Length: 82.15 km
- Length of elevated: 70 km (Delhi: 9.22 km, Uttar Pradesh: 60.57 km)
- Underground length: 12 km (Delhi: 5 km, UP: 7 km)
- Delhi section: approx 14 km, portion in UP: approx 68 km
- There will be two maintenance depots in Duhai and Modipuram.
- Total cost of the project: Rs 30,274 crore
Where did the funds for the project come from?
Asian Development Bank (ADB) has received one billion dollars, New Development Bank (NDB) has received $500 million and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has received $500 million to build the Namo Bharat Project.

Apart from this, 20 percent contribution has been received from the Government of India, 3.22 percent contribution from the Delhi Government and 16.78 percent contribution from the Uttar Pradesh Government.
There will be a total of 16 Namo Bharat stations on the corridor.

Let us tell you that the foundation stone of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Corridor was laid by Prime Minister Modi on March 8, 2019. Within four years of the start of its construction work, PM Modi had inaugurated it. He had flagged off the 17 kilometer stretch between Sahibabad and Duhai depot.
Know about Meerut Metro
Local metro services will be provided in Meerut on semi-high speed Namo Bharat infrastructure. This metro will facilitate passengers to change from one train to another faster without any inconvenience and will make the traveling experience comfortable.

The top speed of Meerut Metro can be 135 km per hour. It has been designed accordingly. But, its operating speed will be maximum of 120 km per hour, making it the fastest metro system in the country. It will provide convenience to passengers with 13 stations in the 23 km stretch. Of these, 4 stations Meerut South, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram will provide services to both NaMo Bharat and Meerut Metro.
