PM Modi inaugurates Namo Bharat Corridor in Meerut
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the remaining 82 km long corridor of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transport System and the remaining 23 km long Meerut Metro. With the launch of this new and state-of-the-art transport service, there will be a major improvement in connectivity between Delhi-NCR and Meerut.
Passenger services will start from 6 pm
After the inauguration, passenger services will start on this route from 6 pm, which will provide the option of fast, safe and convenient travel to millions of people. The Prime Minister also flagged off the remaining sections of India’s first ‘Namo Bharat’ rapid rail. This includes about 5 kilometers from Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and 21 kilometers from South Meerut to Modipuram in Meerut. After the complete launch of this entire project, the travel time between Delhi and Meerut will reduce to less than an hour, which will be much faster than before.

On this occasion, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the Prime Minister at Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad. After this the Prime Minister reached Meerut, where he inaugurated various parts of RRTS and Meerut Metro and addressed a public meeting. During this period, various development projects worth about Rs 12,930 crore were also inaugurated and inaugurated.
The RRTS has been designed for a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour and an operating speed of approximately 160 kilometers per hour. This will significantly reduce the travel time between major cities like Delhi, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut. Whereas Meerut Metro, whose maximum speed is about 120 kilometers per hour, will be able to complete the entire 23 kilometer route in about 30 minutes. This is the first time that Namo Bharat Train and Metro will share the same track infrastructure.
interchange facility
In this corridor, interchange facility has been provided between Metro and Rapid Rail at major stations like Meerut South, Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram. Sarai Kale Khan station has been developed as a multi-modal transit hub with connectivity to the railway station, bus terminal and metro services.
For the convenience of passengers, facilities like smart ticketing, QR code based entry, modern coaches, charging points, comfortable seats and separate coaches for women have been provided. Before the inauguration, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the arrangements and inspected security, cleanliness and passenger facilities. This project is being considered an important step towards strengthening the modern, fast and sustainable transport system in Delhi-NCR.
