Don’t be afraid of digital arrest… In Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi told the indigenous way to avoid cyber thugs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his popular program Mann Ki Baat, advised the countrymen to beware of increasing cyber crimes and new frauds like “digital arrest”. He said that one should not panic, but should act wisely and cautiously. The biggest weapon of thugs is your fear.

What is the trap of digital arrest?

In digital arrest, cyber thugs call themselves pretending to be police, CBI or narcotics officers. They say that a serious case has been registered against you and immediate action will be taken.

By creating fear, they keep people on video calls for hours in the name of “investigation”. During this period the victim is prohibited from talking to anyone. Remember, no government agency makes arrests over video calls.

How do people fall into this fraud?

The swindlers first talk in a stern voice, then reassure others by showing fake documents and warrants. Many times the elderly, businessmen and simple people are their targets.

Out of fear and panic, people transfer their deposits. In native language, “Intellect stops working due to fear.”

Special advice from PM Modi

The Prime Minister clearly said that do not give bank details, OTP, PIN or password to anyone under any circumstances. If someone threatens you by pretending to be an officer, immediately inform your family or friends.

If necessary, contact the police or cyber helpline. The game of swindlers works only when you remain alone and scared.

Be cautious of KYC and banking fraud

PM Modi also cautioned against fraud in the name of KYC update. Many times people posing as fake bank officials send fake links.

Always do KYC related work only through the bank’s official website, app or branch. Clicking on an unknown link or giving information over the phone can cause huge losses.

Simple thing – “Don’t be afraid, don’t panic, first check and then accept.” Be alert, make your family aware and foil the tricks of cyber fraudsters.
