Adani-Embraer Deal: Assembly of E175 jet in India

Adani Defense and Embraer signed an agreement to set up the Final Assembly Line of E175 jet in India. This will promote ‘Make in India’, generate employment and improve regional air connectivity.

Business: A big news has come for India’s aerospace sector. Adani Defense and Aerospace and Brazil’s leading aircraft manufacturer Embraer have jointly taken an important step towards setting up the Final Assembly Line of E175 regional jet aircraft in India. This agreement is being seen as a new energy for the ‘Make in India’ campaign.

This advanced Memorandum of Understanding i.e. MOU was exchanged during the program organized in the national capital. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal were also present on this occasion. This partnership is considered to give a new direction to India’s aircraft manufacturing sector.

Final Assembly Line of E175 jet in India

Under this deal, the Final Assembly Line (FAL) of the E175 regional jet will be established in India. This means that the final manufacturing and assembly of these aircraft will take place in India only. This will strengthen aerospace manufacturing in the country and create new employment opportunities at the local level.

The E175 is a modern regional jet, with a seating capacity of up to 88 passengers. This aircraft is considered especially suitable for increasing air connectivity between tier two and tier three cities. There are many airports where service by large aircraft is limited. There this jet can become a better option.

‘Make in India’ will get a boost

The Government of India has been emphasizing on self-reliance in the defense and aerospace sector for a long time under the ‘Make in India’ campaign. This agreement is being considered a strong step in that direction.

When the assembly line of a big aircraft is established in the country, not only the aircraft manufacturing but the entire supply chain system related to it also develops. Small and medium industries get an opportunity to supply parts and components. This increases technical expertise in the country and strengthens its ability to compete at the global level.

This initiative will work towards establishing India as not just a big market but also a manufacturing hub.

Next episode of strategic cooperation

This agreement is the next major step after the strategic cooperation announced on January 27. Following the initial MOU, this detailed agreement is now part of a broader plan to develop an integrated Regional Transport Aircraft ecosystem in India.

The objective of this initiative is not limited to aircraft assembly but also includes development of training, maintenance, repair and overhaul i.e. MRO facilities. This will further strengthen the infrastructure of the aviation sector in India.

Regional air connectivity will get new momentum

Increasing regional air connectivity is a big challenge in a big country like India. There are many small cities where air service is limited or there are not enough passengers for large planes. In such a situation, regional jets like E175 can prove helpful in opening new routes.

The aircraft offers superior fuel efficiency and reliable operation on short-haul routes. This can also help airlines keep costs under control. This facility will become an option for fast and comfortable travel for passengers.

This jet can play an important role in connecting second and third tier cities with metro cities. This will also increase opportunities for trade, tourism and investment.

New strength in India-Brazil relations

There is also a diplomatic aspect to this partnership. India and Brazil have long had strategic relations. Cooperation in high-tech sectors like aerospace will further strengthen the relations between the two countries.

Brazil’s Embraer is known globally for manufacturing regional jets. Establishing an assembly line in India will also speed up the process of technical cooperation and knowledge transfer. This will provide international level training and experience to Indian engineers and technicians.
