Bora also accused Congress of hurting the sentiments of the Assamese community. He said that ‘Congress has also hurt the sentiments of the Assamese community. I served Congress with ideology, conscience and patriotism for 32 years, but now I am hurt.

Welcoming Bora, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he may have some unhappiness in his mind while leaving Congress, but a new chapter is starting for him in BJP. He said that ‘his new life in BJP is starting from today. He is now a proud member of the party. The BJP family will take full care of him and will love and respect him.

BJP state president Dilip Saikia said that the party’s strength has increased with the arrival of new leaders. ‘From today the strength of BJP workers has increased further. The new members have come forward inspired by the work of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

While talking to the media in Guwahati, Bora said that ‘before the Panchayat elections, the Chief Minister of Assam was openly talking about his Pakistan connection in every meeting. I had written a letter to AICC suggesting filing a defamation case in the larger interest of the Congress party, but we lost the Panchayat elections… What the court will decide is not my subject, what is important for me is what the people of Assam decide…”

On joining BJP, Bora said, ‘I have given 32 years and I have a deep family connection with Congress. But today the situation of Congress in Assam is very worrying. Those who are serious about the interest of the state can no longer stay with the Congress.”

Giving an example, he said, ‘I will mention an example written in my resignation letter. Sherman Ali, a Congress MLA, had called all the martyrs of the Assam movement as dacoits; I immediately expelled him. Another Congress MLA from Assam said that all the priests are rapists, and now his name has been proposed for the assembly elections from Jaleshwar. Another Congress spokesperson had said that when Congress comes to power under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi, 45 assembly seats will be reserved for Muslims.

Bora further said that when I was removed from the post of President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Gaurav Gogoi appointed Aman Wadud as the social media head. Wadud had written a book in which he claimed that the Assamese people are not indigenous. How can I work with such a team?
