Bangladesh-based handler of Lashkar module was in touch with Hafiz Saeed
After the busting of a major terrorist conspiracy in the national capital, shocking revelations have come to light before the investigating agencies. According to sources, the Bangladesh-based handlers of the eight suspects who have been arrested had direct contact with the top leadership of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), including 26/11 Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed and senior commander Zaki-ur-Rehman-Lakhvi.
Sources said that the alleged handler of this module is a Kashmiri terrorist named Shabbir Ahmed Lone, who is currently active in Bangladesh. Investigating agencies believe that Lone has been in touch with the top leadership of Lashkar since 2007 and played an important role in coordinating the recently captured module.
Who is terrorist Shabbir Ahmed Lone?
Shabbir Ahmed Lone was also known as “Raju”. Shabbir is a Kashmiri terrorist associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Delhi Police Special Cell arrested Shabbir in New Delhi in 2007. At the time of his arrest, he was found with an AK-47 rifle, hand grenade and around ₹1 lakh in “hawala” money. In 2012, a Delhi court acquitted Lone of the most serious charges, including “waging war against the government” (IPC section 121) and separate sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), due to lack of evidence. He was found guilty only of possessing a pistol under the Arms Act and sentenced to six years in jail.
After serving his sentence under the Arms Act, Lone was placed in custody in a separate money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). In September 2019, a Delhi court granted him bail on the grounds that personal liberty is precious and he should be considered innocent until proven guilty. After being released on bail in 2019, Lone fled India and went to Bangladesh. After becoming active in Bangladesh, Shabbir operates the network from there.
As of February 22, 2026, Indian security agencies have identified Lone as the mastermind of a recently foiled conspiracy involving several Bangladeshi nationals arrested in Delhi and Kolkata. He is currently working from Bangladesh, directing activities like putting up anti-India posters and coordinating the local terror cell.
The role of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI has come to light in the investigation. According to sources, ISI is trying to recruit Bangladeshi citizens living illegally in India for terrorist activities. After the recent arrests, Delhi Police suspects that financial help for recruitment and operational planning was also being provided by ISI.
Fear of attack near Red Fort
Delhi Police arrested eight suspected terrorists today. Six of them, Mizanur Rahman, Mohammed Shabat, Omar, Mohammed Litan, Mohammed Shahid and Mohammed Ujjal, were caught from garment units in Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu, while two other accused were arrested from West Bengal. The action was initiated after inputs were received from central intelligence agencies that a module was planning subversive activities in different parts of the country.
On Saturday (February 21), security agencies had issued an alert regarding a possible explosion around the Red Fort. There were indications in the intelligence that Lashkar-e-Taiba has targeted major religious places in India and an IED attack may be being planned. Sources say that this alleged conspiracy may also be related to the intention to avenge the blast in a mosque in Islamabad on February 6.
It is noteworthy that in November last year, at least 13 people were killed and more than 20 were injured in a car explosion near the Red Fort. A car filled with explosives exploded near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro station, causing chaos in the area.
During the raid, police recovered dozens of mobile phones and SIM cards. By forensically investigating them, the entire chain of the network and possible foreign links are being ascertained. Central agencies are also cooperating in the investigation of Delhi Police. At present, the investigation into the case is ongoing and security agencies are deeply investigating other possible members of the module and foreign connections.
