In a tragic accident on **National Highway 49** near **Jharsuguda Sadar Police Station** in Jharsuguda district of Odisha, around **4 AM** on Sunday morning, a speeding trailer (truck loaded with iron rods) collided head-on with a police **Bolero/PCR van**.
**Five policemen** died on the spot, and **three** were seriously injured. Jharsuguda SP **Gundala Reddy Raghavendra** (or Gundala Raghavendra Reddy) confirmed the details. The deceased have been identified as **APR jawans Kashiram Bhoi** and **Debdutt Sa**, **Drill Sub-Inspector Niranjan Kujur**, **APR Havildar Lingaraj Dhurua**, and **Home Guard Bhaktabandhu Mirdha**. Reports suggest that the team was returning from a wedding ceremony (or wedding party) and going on duty.
The injured – including two APR members and a sergeant – were taken to **Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital** for treatment under strict observation. The trailer driver has been arrested for questioning, and a detailed investigation is underway to determine the cause (e.g., speeding, road conditions).
