New Delhi: There have been many exciting matches so far in the Super-8 round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Recently, in the match played between the teams of England and Sri Lanka, the English team defeated the host Sri Lanka by 51 runs. With this victory, England registered their 12th consecutive win against Sri Lanka in T20 International cricket, which shows their strength.
England, batting first, scored 146 runs losing 9 wickets in 20 overs, giving Sri Lanka a target of 147 runs. However, the Sri Lankan batsmen could not stand against the accurate bowling of England and were reduced to only 95 runs in 16.4 overs. In this match, England’s spin bowlers took 7 wickets, which clearly showed their dominance.
England’s bad start
England did not have a good start, where captain Jos Buttler was out after scoring 7 runs in 14 balls. The team lost some early wickets, but opener Phil Salt fulfilled the responsibility well and scored a brilliant half-century. Salt played an excellent inning of 62 runs in 40 balls, which included 6 fours and 2 sixes.
Dunith Velalage most successful bowler
Lower down the order for England, Will Jacques scored 21 runs in 14 balls and helped the team reach a respectable score. On the other hand, Sri Lankan bowler Dunith Velalage gave the best performance for his team by taking 3 wickets. Sri Lanka’s batting was under pressure while chasing the target, and England’s bowlers took wickets consistently with precise line and length. As a result, the Sri Lankan batsmen could not build big partnerships and the entire team was out for just 95 runs.
Will Jacques took 3 wickets
Will Jacques gave an all-round performance for England by taking 3 wickets. Jofra Archer, Liam Dawson, and Adil Rashid took 2 wickets each, while Jamie Overton got one wicket. It is noteworthy that Sri Lanka last defeated England in T20 International cricket on 20 May 2014, and since then England has won all the 12 T20 matches played between the two teams. During this period, England won many matches in a one-sided manner.
