Kolkata: Two arrested from Murshidabad in Pakistan link case, accused of sending SIM card OTP.

The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police has arrested two youths from Murshidabad district. They are accused of sending OTPs of Indian SIM cards to networks linked to Pakistan. During the arrest, the police recovered several mobile phones and SIM cards from them.

 

First arrest on 10 February

According to STF, after receiving concrete information on 10 February 2026, Juhab Sheikh was arrested from Gudhiya village of Murshidabad. Investigation of his mobile phone revealed that he along with his partner Suman Shaikh used to share OTP through WhatsApp. Police say that in return they used to get money and these OTPs were later used in suspicious and illegal activities. In this matter, a case has been registered at STF Headquarters Police Station under the Indian Code of Justice (BNS), Indian Telegraph Act 1885 and Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025. Zuhab Shaikh was taken into police custody for questioning.

 

Arrest of associate on 22 February

In this series, on 22 February 2026, Suman Shaikh was also arrested from Gudhiya Dargatala area of ​​Murshidabad. He was produced in Bidhannagar court, from where he was sent to police custody for further investigation. According to the police, Suman Shaikh is a resident of Baharampur and works in a lathe factory. Investigation has also revealed that both the youths used to sell SIM cards and allegedly used to send OTPs of Indian SIM cards to WhatsApp users active in Pakistan.

 

Pakistan link investigation intensified

The investigating agencies suspect that through these OTPs, Pakistan’s intelligence agencies were controlling WhatsApp accounts linked to different mobile numbers in India. It is feared that these accounts were being used to collect information related to important persons and institutions of India. STF’s cyber team is investigating the matter in depth. It is also being seen whether any sensitive document or information has been leaked and other people associated with this network are being identified.

 

The family claimed that the allegations were false.

Suman Shaikh’s mother Maneka Bibi says that her son works in making steel furniture and is not involved in any illegal activity. He has called all the allegations baseless. At present, the interrogation of both the accused is going on and the investigating agencies are busy investigating the entire link of this network.
