India’s biggest defeat in T20 World Cup, defeated by South Africa by 76 runs

India’s victory chariot has stopped in ICC T20 World Cup 2026. In the Super-8 match, Team India had to face a crushing defeat by 76 runs at the hands of South Africa. This is the Indian team’s biggest defeat in terms of runs in T20 World Cup history.

 

In this match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, South Africa won the toss and batted first and scored 187 runs at the loss of 7 wickets, in response to which the Indian team was all out for just 111 runs. Shivam Dubey scored the highest 42 runs. For this he faced 37 balls and was only able to reduce the margin of defeat.

 

Suryakumar Yadav scored only 8 runs after playing 22 balls. Ishaan Kishan could not even open an account. Tilak Verma was out after scoring 1 run. Marco Johnson bowled lethally for South Africa, taking 4 wickets for 22 runs in 3.5 overs.

 

Earlier, David Miller had rescued the Proteas team from the initial shock by playing an inning of 63 runs in 35 balls. He got the support of Dewald Brewis (45) and Tristan Stubbs (44 not out), which helped South Africa post a strong score and it proved to be too much for India.
