Box office journey of Taapsee Pannu’s film ‘Assi’
Mumbai: Taapsee Pannu’s much awaited film ‘Assi’ released in theaters on 20th February. This film competed with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Mrinal Thakur’s film ‘Do Deewane Shehar’. It received a positive response in the media screenings before its release, but its opening at the box office is painting a different picture.
Earning of ‘Assi’ on the second day
According to Sacknilk report, the film collected a gross of Rs 1.92 crore and a net collection of Rs 1.60 crore in India on the second day. Its total net collection of two days has reached 2.60 crores. Despite about 3435 shows across the country, the film’s occupancy stood at 13.2 percent, which is considered relatively low. Taapsee’s previous theatrical release ‘Khel Khel Mein’ had made a net collection of Rs 2.05 crore on the second day, due to which ‘Assi’ is currently behind. However, trade experts believe that if growth is seen on Saturday and Sunday, the situation may change.
Will ‘Assi’ be able to clear the budget?
The official budget of the film has not been announced yet, but according to reports, it has been made at a cost of around Rs 30 to 40 crores. Initial earnings may be a matter of concern for the makers. Anubhav Sinha is known for films based on serious and social issues. His films often receive critical acclaim, but box office success largely depends on audience reception. ‘Assi’ also now needs a strong weekend to cross its budget.
Kani Kusruti plays an important role along with Taapsee Pannu in the film. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Manoj Pahwa, Seema Pahwa, Kumud Mishra and Revathi are also playing important roles. The presence of Naseeruddin Shah and Supriya Pathak in special roles further strengthens the film.
