Two policemen shot dead on India-Pakistan border… Is it a terrorist conspiracy or mutual rivalry?

New Delhi: The bodies of two policemen were found today at a police check post near the India-Pakistan border in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, creating a sensation in the entire area. The slain soldiers have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gurnam Singh and Home Guard jawan Ashok Kumar. Although there is a slight difference in the names in some reports, both were policemen. Both of them were performing duty at the ‘Second Line of Defence’ check post near the border.

On Sunday suddenly the sound of gunshot was heard. When other soldiers reached the spot, both were found lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately taken to Gurdaspur Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The bodies have been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem.

Questions raised in investigation

This case has become a puzzle for the police because there were no eyewitnesses at the time of the incident. The main question is who fired the shot? Was there a dispute over something between the two soldiers and they opened fire on each other? Or is there a third person or external element involved?

Being so close to the border, there is a possibility of terrorist activity or infiltration, although no concrete evidence has been found yet.

As soon as information about the incident was received, Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Aditya Dalbal himself reached the spot. He took charge of the investigation. The entire area has been surrounded. The forensic team has collected shells, traces of weapons and other evidence from the spot.

From this, efforts are being made to find out from which weapon and from which direction the bullets were fired. The police are currently avoiding giving an official statement and are investigating every possibility.
